Business Support Centers

There are several Centers located in central California designed to serve specific business needs, to include Small Business Development, Workplace Learning, Environmental Technology, International Trade Development, Health Care Services, Applied Competitive Technologies, and Advanced Transportation Technology.

Small Business Development Centers

If you are a small business operation, the community college system of California can provide hands-on help. Working in partnership with California Trade and Commerce Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Small Business Development Centers provide comprehensive services to help promote the start-up, retention, and expansion of small businesses.

Workplace Learning Resource Centers (WpLRC)

Workplace Learning Centers provide business and industry with a variety of workplace learning services, including occupational-specific skill assessments, task analysis, basic skills, English as a Second Language, analytical and problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Affordable on-site training to increase the knowledge and potential of employees is available.

Environmental Technology Center

California's Community College Environmental Technology program was developed to help protect our natural resources through proper management and disposal of toxic substances. Colleges are training a segment of the workforce to make pollution prevention a reality. In compliance with government regulations, Environmental Technology Centers provide the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the urgent need for technicians who handle hazardous substances and work in areas of worker health and safety.

Centers for International Trade Development

Centers for International Trade Development enhance the competitive strength of California businesses in the international marketplace and support international trade development in their local communities.

Centers can assist small businesses in boosting sales beyond their regions and across borders by providing one-on-one training and technical support through export workshops and seminars, referral and resource services, international databases, and specialized training.

Regional Health Occupations Resource Centers

Regional Health Occupations Resource Centers develop partnerships that encourage collaboration between health care employers and education providers to address the needs of California's health care industry. They also complete needs assessments, job analyses, curricula and resource development, training, certification testing and referrals to health care industry employers.

Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT)

Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies provide access to new manufacturing technologies, resolution of specific manufacturing problems, and technology transfer opportunities. Initial on-site assessments are made without obligation, and programs are customized to meet specific customer needs.

Focusing on increasing a business' productivity, Centers assist clients in such areas as process improvements, advanced materials technology, environmentally sound manufacturing, workforce assessment and training, SBIR grants, and Total Quality Management.
